The Intro

Pete – We’re booked for Halloween in New York City.
Jeff – About that, I think I’d like to implement a rule, no regular clothes.
Pete – (Silence)… Costumes only?
Jeff – We get a sh!tload of costumes and switch each day.
Pete – If we go get lunch, sandwich or something, we do it in a costume.
Jeff – Yeah, it’ll be a huge chicken getting a sandwich.
Pete – I’ll have a chicken salad please, hahaha.
Jeff – Hahahaha, yeah.
Pete – We’re gonna need top notch costumes, after all, it is New York F’n City.
Jeff – Definitely, no weak masks or plastic sh!t. The good stuff, movie quality.
Pete – We’re gonna need a photographer for this. Dale.
Jeff – He’s going to be expensive.
Pete – We’ll pitch it as a project for a photo book.
Jeff – You think he’ll buy that?
Pete – (Silence)
Jeff – Either way, I’ll call him today.
Pete – I’ll call Peppe, he’ll need to be there too.
Jeff – This is going to be great!

Along with photos of Canberra I made it a mission while in Aus to get to the coast. One day my mate Kingston and I get up early to chase the sun and make the most of the fading summer. We chucked on the beats and road tripped it out to Malua Bay to eat the local fresh fish and chips, step foot on soft sand and go rock climbing around the jagged headland. Australia has an incredibly unique landscape that is unmistakable, it was fascinating to document a place I had lived my entire life but from spending time away gained a new perspective and photographed it as such.

As is always the case my transit times were epic and I had 2 good stints inside my favourite building on the planet (architecturally speaking); the Beijing International Airport. I never get tired of capturing the light, lines and shadows of that spectacular structure.

In the end I spent a little over 2 weeks in the land of Aus catching up with friends and family. It was exactly what I needed and I came away feeling refreshed and ready to rock another few years in these distant lands.

But this is not about me, this is about the gorgeous couple Jamie and Emily. Two people that seemed destined to be together from the get go, and that was evident on the big day. I have shot many weddings in my time, but few couples have been so relaxed before the ceremony. It was like they knew without a doubt that their life was guaranteed to be along the same course for many many years to come, and that this was just another day to celebrate their perfect match. It was far from an ordinary day… It was gorgeous. After one of the rainiest, coldest summers on Canberra’s record, this day broke the clouds away and the sun shone brilliantly throughout the day and boy did they make the most of it!

Over the course of the World Finals Week, DJ’s representing their respective countries competed each night so the judges could decide who was good enough to go on to the Grand Final. Throughout the days Red Bull had lined up an epic assortment of activities to keep everyone entertained and provide an outlet from the stress of the competition. I got to follow the international crew of incredibly talented DJ’s around Vancouver and documented for what many of them was the biggest week of their lives.

The Grand Final was to be held at the famous Commodore Ballroom, it was decked out to the nines and was clearly ready to rock Van City. As was the goal from the beginning of the competition, there could only be one winner. And in the end it was local boy DJ Hedspin from Canada who stood above the rest to claim the top prize in 2011. Bigups to all the DJ’s involved, I had a rad time getting to know you over the course of that insane week! You all, truly, do, rock! I just hope you have as much fun enjoying the pictures as I had taking them :) To all the Red Bull crew, you guys are unreal! I had the best time working with ya’s, we should really do it again sometime! PEACE
