In 2009 I travelled to Canada for the first time. From my travels in 2007 around Europe I met so many amazing people from the land of the maple leaf that I had to go and visit. I planned to go from Vancouver to Halifax and visit as many cities and towns in between as I could via road and rail. All of this in 1 month. It was a tough ask considering how huge the country is, I knew I would only get a taste of each city and would have to return later in life to the places that I liked. Most people usually go to Canada for the incredible landscapes, I was going for the people, so as such I didn't have any expectations when it came to the sites I would see, that was just a happy coincidence. The reason I have since returned to Canada was once again for the people, no matter where I went, the relaxed and kind natured folk were there to greet me with a smile and made sure I was having the time of my life. So it wasn't hard for me to make the decision to move to Vancouver in 2010. On top of this the landscapes are actually quite impressive :P
The following project is called "1 year on". Every few days I will post some images on the blog that were taken in Canada exactly one year earlier to the day. You can join the adventure by checking in every couple of days to see where I was at this time last year.
Beginning in Vancouver on the 28th of June, the first stop on the 7000km journey from west to east; preparation for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games was in full swing. Granville street was a construction site and everywhere you looked buildings were going up in double time... so here we go :)
Stay tuned.
